A lot of the good work Ken did will just be undone such as the free bus passes for those under 18 and still in full time education which for living in london is bloody amazing, (did you know a standard fare on a london bus is £2, and that is regardless of how far and its a single not a return!) 

Young teenagers are being stabbed and killed all around london such as Jimmy Mizen this saturday who had only turned 16 the day before. This happens when Boris Johnson said in his election campaign that he’d cut spending on police! It doesn’t take rocket science to work out something needs to be done in London.

Boris himself is an absolute moron. His speech after he was announced mayor was, although with the odd joke, was not weel presented. How can the most of london relate to an upper class toff from private school who doesn’t even live in London???  He repeatedly appeared on Have I Got News For You and was treated like a court jester, not the behaviour of a future mayor.

Yes Ken made some mistakes, but when it came to it he was a great mayor, he did the job and did the job well. Some are far too willing to forget the great work he did just because the newspapers focussed on the bad. He won us the Olympics for christ sake, actually maybe he should be england footy manager????

I must warn anyone who is planning to go New York be prepared for lack of sleep and achey feet if you want to make the most of it. We see barely any of the sights and still managed to kill our feet by the end of each day. I must recommend you visit the Empire State building. It’s $19 approx, which in the good strong pound is around £9.50 which isn’t bad. They were carrying out a refurb while I was there but it was still worth every penny or, if you want to be technical, cent! I had luckily visited NY the year before but the views from the E.S were still as breathtaking as before. You can see the entire city, with the statue of liberty looking the size of a childs toy! I must warn you ladies, do not wear any floaty, chiffon or any light clothing when going up to the observatory. Remember you are over 80floors up which equals very VERY windy weather.

We were only there for about 3days, and trust me, i got a stomach bug/food poisoning on my second day which left me out for that whole day : (. The rest of my lot tried to go to the statue of liberty on that day but were faced with massive queues for the free ferry. Speaking from experience that is a must see. As an avid fan of Titanic, I felt a bit like Kate Winslet standing next to the statue and if I manage to work out how you upload photos on here I have a great pic of me standing right in front of it.

One of the best places to go for all shoppers is Tiffany’s and Abercrombie and Fitch. They are pratically opposite eachother. I felt like having an Audrey Hepburn moment and eating a croissant as I stood outside the mammoth building with its gleaming revolving doors willing me in. One thing Hepburn got right was to wear sunglasses as you go in as the reflection you get off the thousands of diamonds just in the ground floor is enough to blind anyone! Abercrombie and Fitch, a clothes shop to the bewildered, is just as enchanting, with hunky, may i mention they are topless, men drawing you in with good looks and smooth charming new york accent. 

I attempted to do some form of journalism while out there once i managed to get tiffany’s and abercrombie out of my head. I bought an issue of people magazine as well as the New York post, which was 25cents!!! It was a lot like the sun really with small bizarre stories, worth reading only for comedy value. The television was totally different story! The adverts were soooooo cheesy! and there version of GMTV was unbelievably fake and false with all the presenters finding eachothers joke wayyy too funny.

All in all it was such a great trip and I am already tempted to start saving for next year trip there!!!!

Hampshire’s stop smoking service Quit4Life is available by referral from your GP, dentist or midwife. The sessions are run by professional smoking advisers, who will give free stop smoking medication.

The latest figures for MRSA and C Difficile cases for Winchester and Eastleigh healthcare trust show the trust has improved since last year.

Figures released recently from the Health Protection Agency show there have only been 5 cases of MRSA and 93 cases of C Difficile, continuing the downward trend from September 2006.

 Chief Executive Martin Wakeley said recently in a press release that he was “really pleased to say that there have been some fantastic developments this year.” While figures for MRSA are indeed down heavily nationwide, with C Difficile still reasonably high, MRSA is a lot more deadly and is harder to treat which therefore increases the need to reduce outbreaks. In comparison C Difficile rarely causes problems apart from some antibiotics helping it to thrive.

 The figures for Winchester and Eastleigh are much better when compared to their original upper target for the year with an aim for only 12 cases of MRSA and 150 for C Difficile. One of the reasons possibly for this achievement is the trust’s strict policies and measures. One such policy is replacing all carpeted clinical areas with hard flooring. 

Jane Gordon added on behalf of the trust they are now using “barrier nursing and the use of an isolation ward for C Difficile cases and general deep cleaning of wards”.

The outlook is positive according to ministers who say that by 2011 there will be an extra £270m a year available for infection control. This will enable trusts to appoint specialist nurses to combat infections and gradually phase in MRSA screening.

Don’t really follow politics that much apart from what is on the news when i watch it. i wouldn’t say i actively follow it because i find it really boring.

From last weeks lecture i had a basic grasp to begin with on the constitution and stuff because I did history Alevel as well picking it up from general things such as watching the film “The Queen”… surprising what you learn sometimes from films!!
